Consorci d’Aigües de Tarragona (CAT)

The Consorci d’Aigües de Tarragona (CAT) is a non-profit organisation with its own legal personality that collects water from the Ebre river through the irrigation channels, treats it at the ETAP of l’Ampolla and distributes it to municipalities and industries in the Tarragona area.

The CAT’s activity is regulated by Law 18/81 on water activities in Tarragona. It was formally constituted in 1985 and came into operation on 30 July 1989, initially supplying drinking water to 26 municipalities and 15 industries, to reach, by 2022, 71 municipalities and 25 industries in the consortium.
