WATERTALKS: INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES FOR WASTEWATER TREATMENT

The VI edition of CWP WaterTalks: “Innovative technologies for wastewater treatment” took place on January 17th, organized in collaboration with Leitat, which hosted the event, and with the support of the European project Houseful. Jordi Rovira, head of the Singular Programming Unit of the Sanitation Area of the Catalan Water Agency gave the institutional welcome presenting the programs of the ACA in sanitation. This was followed by a brief technical conference to present the results of the Houseful project, which aims to design innovative solutions for the decentralized treatment of sewage and organic waste. Carolina Carbó, coordinator of the project, and Natalia Rey, Leitat’s researcher, intervened. The day was then divided into two blocks of presentations: on the one hand, research projects presented by universities and research centers, and on the other hand, innovative solutions presented by companies in the water sector. Regarding the first session, Julia Zapata (Leitat) presented the REGENERA project for the treatment of water by electrolysis, Julian Carrera (Genocov group of the UAB) presented technologies for the clean production of energy in wastewater treatment and Esther Mendoza (ICRA) presented the ReUseMP3 project on technologies based on nature for the reuse of gray water. During the second session, solutions for complex water treatment (David Galí, Hidroquimia), biological processes for urban, industrial and leisure water treatment (Óscar Prado, AERIS), the success case of the WWTP of Lérida, where several R&D projects are being carried out (Antonio Giménez, Aqualia) and advanced oxidation technologies (Andriy Kharuk, Hydrokemos) were presented. Xavier Amores, Director of CWP, made the closing presentation presenting some of the CWP projects currently underway related to wastewater treatment, such as the Aquatwins, SmartH2Otel and AtmosphAIr projects, financed in the call for AEIs 2022b by Mincotur with Next Generation funds within the framework of the PRTR. The day, which was attended by 100 people, concluded with a visit to Leitat’s pilot plant for the treatment of sewage and organic waste.
