THE CWP ORGANISED THE CONFERENCE “NEW REGULATIONS ON WATER FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION” WITH A SPEECH BY MARGARITA PALAU

On 13th of September, the conference “The new regulations on water for human consumption: European directive, transposition to RD and adaptation to the new requirements” took place in the conference room of the Catalan Water Agency. The event was attended by 180 registered attendees, both online and in person. Samuel Reyes, Director of the ACA, and Xavier Amores, Director of the CWP, opened the session with an introduction and welcome. In his speech, Samuel Reyes highlighted the creation of a local support unit “to move forward in a coordinated manner with local councils and supra-municipal bodies to improve the management of the water cycle”. Margarita Palau, Head of the Water Quality Area of the Ministry of Health and leader of the transposition of Directive 2020/2184 into a Royal Decree, gave a presentation on the draft Royal Decree and the main updates it introduces. To conclude the session, the implications of the new regulation were discussed in a panel discussion with Miquel Rovira (Eurecat), Jordi Oliver-Rodés (Dr. Oliver Rodés Laboratory), Guillem Gilabert-Oriol (Dupont Water Solutions), Montse Pallarés (Kurita) and Ernest Rifà (Tucai) and moderated by Lucia Gusmaroli, project manager of CWP. They discussed the sector’s challenges in adapting to stricter quality requirements, the importance of more advanced treatment technologies and R&D, and the opportunities related to digital solutions.
