The other members are the Diputació de Barcelona, the Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona, the Consell Comarcal del Vallès Oriental and the Consorci per a la Gestió dels Residus del Vallès Oriental. The CBT’s lines of action are low-level sanitation – municipal sewers -, high-level sanitation – control of discharges, collectors, wastewater pumping stations (WWTPs) and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) -, improvement of the river environment – five rivers and a stream in its area: Mogent, Congost, Tenes, Ripoll, Besòs i riera de Caldes-, the promotion and environmental education and the support to the consortium members. Of these 52 municipalities, 39 have delegated their sanitation administration functions to the CBT, with a population equivalent to 430000 inhabitants and more than 4000 industrial establishments. With regard to the activities of the CBT, low-level sanitation (1,250 km of sewage) includes the maintenance and cleaning of municipal sewage pipes, as well as extension and improvement work on these facilities. On the other hand, in order to carry out sewage treatment, it has 18 WWTPs, almost 300 km of collectors and 45 WWTPs.
