THE DAY ON WATER CONSUMPTION IN THE INDUSTRIAL SECTOR IS HELD WITH MORE THAN 500 ATTENDANTS

Last Thursday, May 18, the day on water consumption in the industrial sector was held. This event, organized by ACCIÓ and the Catalan Water Agency and in which the CWP participated, aimed to inform the various Catalan industrial sectors of the actions that will be taken to deal with the effects of the lack of water arising from the current drought situation and what levers the industrial sector can use to deal with them. The event was opened by Albert Castellanos, Secretary of Business and Competitiveness and Executive Secretary of ACCIÓ who highlighted the role that success stories led by CWP companies can have in helping the industry to undertake changes. Jordi Molist, director of the ACA supply area, made the first of the interventions explaining the context of the drought and the expected restrictions. Then, Maite Ardèvol, leader of ACCIÓ’s Circular Economy team and Alberto Pezzi, senior cluster manager, introduced the help lines of ACCIÓ and the General Directorate of Industry to the attendees.

The last of the presentations was given by Xavier Amores, director of the CWP, who made an intervention related to water management in the industry, in which they presented the future trends in relation to the availability of this resource and several of the technologies, solutions and projects promoted by the CWP with its associated entities and other clusters that aim to minimize water dependence. Sectoral projects carried out in the past on water footprint with Innovi or Innovacc with CWP associates such as Anthesis Lavola or CETAQUA, recent studies on industrial water consumption led by the Beta Technology Center with the REAQUA project, such as technologies and solutions, were shared market to save water, digitize or reuse water from companies such as Aquatec, Telwesa, Derypol, Cimaigua, Aeris, ACO, Sigma Group, Hydrokemos, eWatts, ABM, Createch, SPIN, Sensotec or Adasa.

R&D projects such as ULTIMATE with EURECAT, AITASA and AQUALIA, projects from the RIS3CAT call with the participation of Leitat, Aigües de Barcelona, Hidroquimia, Waterologies, University of Girona or ICRA were also explained. The event ended with an open round of debate and questions where participants were able to interact directly with the ACA and the funding bodies.

The day was held in a hybrid format and was a success with more than 45 in-person attendees and more than 500 remote attendees. In the coming months, the CWP will organize several sectoral conferences with industry representatives and organizations to raise awareness of the effects of the current drought situation on industries and how R&D projects and new technologies can mitigate the effects of the drought scarcity and water use restrictions.
