WATERTALKS – PRESENT AND FUTURE OF BIOLOGICAL GAS TREATMENT

Last December 18th, the CWP co-organised, together with the GENOCOV research group of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the third edition of the CWP WATERTALKS. After the success of these conferences that addressed topics of high interest such as microplastics and nature-based solutions, this time the conference focused on the biological treatment of gases, a topic that aroused great interest in the more than 160 people registered for the event.

This virtual conference also included the participation of the Catalan Water Agency, and Mr. Jordi Robusté presented the evolution of deodorisation systems, the treatment of biogas and greenhouse gas emissions.

The session was divided into two parts, the first focused on real applications and success stories of companies in the sector, and the second part presented R&D projects that are being carried out in this field. In the first block of presentations, the director of the spin-off AERIS, Óscar Prado, presented the different applications of biological technologies for the treatment of industrial gases, and Elvira César, from the company DAM  presented the actions and experiences with this type of technology at the Torredembarra WWTP.

Finally, in the second block, three projects with European funding that are being carried out in Catalonia in the field of gas and biogas treatment were presented. The first project, LIFE BIOGASNET, was presented by researchers Carolina Ramirez and David Cubidés from the Eurecat technology centre. Next, David Gabriel, Department Professor at the UAB, presented the RECYCLES project, which has received funding under the H2020 call for proposals. And to close the cycle of presentations, the Project Manager of CETAQUA Núria Basset presented the  LIFE NIMBUS project.
