In his speeches, Xavier Amores highlighted the importance of sustainability as a differential element for the competitiveness of the sector. Surveys carried out with tourists within the framework of the LIFE Wat’savereuse project identified that tourists do not tend to adopt sustainable habits when they are on holiday. Tourists are often unaware of the water stress in the areas they visit, so effective communication is one of the key objectives to achieve more sustainable tourism. Today, there are increasingly innovative and affordable technologies on the market that can accelerate the sustainability of the sector. Investments in this area are the key to competitiveness. In conclusion, Xavier emphasised that there are many types of tourism that fit. Being able to work as an ecosystem, made up of the technological offer, all the tourism operators and the administrations, will boost the competitiveness of the whole.
