One of the main challenges in terms of sustainability and potential for waste water treatment is the treatment of its waste water. The characteristics of this process (complex purification process, with a high cost related to water and energy consumption) motivate the sector to seek innovative solutions that promote the sustainable exploitation of its plants.
This project proposed a solution to this problem, optimising water treatment with the use of SAD (Decision Support System) technology, which allowed the process to be controlled by means of a platform of mathematical models and artificial intelligence. This technology has been used only in large and medium-sized public wastewater treatment plants, and the project aimed to transfer the previously accumulated know-how and incorporate important innovations that would allow its application to the meat food sector, where the treatment plants are smaller, industrial in nature and operate differently.
The project is the result of cooperation between four companies (Sisltech, Depurwater, Patel and Aviñó), two of them SMEs, and two AEIs (CWP and INNOVAC) and was funded by the MINETUR AEIs programme. It took place between September 2014 and March 2015.
