Drought and the Agri-Food Sector in Catalonia: Overview and Innovative Solutions to Enhance Sector Resilience
On January 10th, a virtual seminar titled “Water Management in Agri-Food Companies in a Drought Emergency Context” was held, organized in collaboration with the Department of Climate Action, Food, and Rural Agenda (DACC) and the Catalan Water Partnership.
The event aimed to provide an overview of the state and impact of drought on Catalan agri-food companies and to present successful case studies of innovative solutions implemented to make this sector more resilient in the face of current and future water scarcity challenges. The seminar was introduced by Joan Gòdia, Director General of Agri-Food Companies, Quality, and Gastronomy at DACC, followed by a presentation from Xavier Amores, who offered a general overview of the current state of drought in Catalonia, its effects, and the implications for legislation and competitiveness within the agri-food sector.
The event continued with six presentations from entities associated with the CWP. Specifically, the speakers were Narcís Pi (ABM), Sergio Ponsá (CT Beta), Andrea Navas (Eurecat), Eduard Dorado (Cim Aigua), Albert Sanmartín (Derypol), and Laura Zuazu (Kurita).
The event served as an excellent meeting point between food companies and the water sector to address the challenges posed by drought both in the short and long term, with an attendance of 160 participants.
