Catalan Water Partnership takes part in the summer course organized by the Aqualia Chair of the Integral Water Cycle and the University of Almería
On July 7th, the summer course “Almería at the forefront of water reuse and desalination: success stories” was inaugurated, organized by the Aqualia Chair of the Integral Water Cycle and the University of Almeria (UAL). Over three days, participants explored the main challenges and opportunities in the water cycle through expert lectures and technical visits to the El Toyo and El Bobar wastewater treatment plants and the Mar de Alborán desalination plant.
Now in its fifth edition, the course focused on reuse and desalination as key tools to address the water emergency. Among the success stories presented were innovative irrigation projects using reclaimed water, cutting-edge desalination technologies and circular economy initiatives.
On the opening day, Xavier Amores, director of the Catalan Water Partnership (CWP) and president of the Council for the Sustainable Use of Water in Catalonia, delivered the lecture “Collaborative innovation in a context of water emergency in Catalonia: what have we learned from drought?”. In his address, he emphasized the importance of research, innovation and collaboration between businesses, public authorities and knowledge centers to tackle a global challenge like drought and ensure a more efficient and sustainable management of water resources.
