Water companies gather to analyze the regulatory requirements for sustainability in the sector
- The meeting took place as part of the 1st Seminar “Reporting Sustainability in the Water Sector: New Future Challenges,” co-organized by Anthesis Lavola and the Catalan Water Partnership (CWP).
- Experts from Acciona, Girbau, and Fluidra have shared their action plans to align with the new regulatory tsunami.
Xavier Amores, Director of the Catalan Water Partnership (CWP), and Núria Pous, Deputy General Manager of Anthesis Lavola, inaugurated on December 14th the first technical seminar on regulatory challenges within the framework of sustainability, co-organized by both entities. Under the title “Reporting Sustainability in the Water Sector,” the seminar attracted a large number of attendees and featured participation from major water sector companies in Catalonia, such as Acciona, Girbau, and Fluidra.
Xavier Amores emphasized the need for professional gatherings organized by entities and clusters. He highlighted that “companies, in addition to generating business value, must also create social and environmental value. This idea must be embedded in the core of the organization.” Núria Pous, on her part, pointed out that “we are in a time of change, and it is essential to understand the need to make commitments and adapt our activities. More than 50% of the GDP depends on natural ecosystems, so it is crucial to preserve and restore them, addressing climate risks to avoid their collapse.”
During the keynote presentation delivered by Adrià Gelabert, Director of Clients and Markets at Anthesis Lavola, attendees were able to review the latest regulatory updates and upcoming business challenges related to sustainability. Clarifying concepts such as CSRD, Double Materiality, European Taxonomy, Climate Risks and TCFD, Human Rights Due Diligence, among others, was one of the primary objectives of the seminar. Gelabert explained that the interest of major financial institutions in social and environmental indicators has reignited sustainability in Europe, leading to new regulations that extend their impact to a much larger number of companies.
The event also included a roundtable discussion featuring practical cases from various water sector companies, who shared their experiences in adapting their production and business practices to meet the new regulatory requirements related to sustainability. Ana Teresa García, Head of CSRD Reporting at Acciona, Joan Vilaseca, Solutions Manager & Sustainability Officer at Girbau, and Ángela Sagastibelza, Corporate ESG Professional at Fluidra, provided their perspectives and experiences in managing internal changes. Following the roundtable, attendees had the opportunity to participate in an open Q&A session.
