The objective is to design, develop and evaluate an intelligent system for monitoring and treatment “in situ” of hospital effluents contaminated with hazardous substances, which allows the analysis of pharmaceutical substances (cytostatics and antibiotics), antibiotic-resistant bacteria and resistance genes (resistome) of interest, in the urine matrices of hospital patients, as a tool for monitoring, surveillance and control of these pollutants of high concern. and to guarantee its total elimination before its discharge into the sanitation network, offering a novel tool for clinical decision-making thanks to the epidemiology of wastewater.
This project will address the development of a system for the treatment of these hospital effluents “in situ” (within the hospital itself), for their treatment prior to discharge into the sewerage network, as well as the design of an advanced and intelligent solution to obtain relevant data from contaminated urine matrices, which are of epidemiological and clinical interest.
Initiative funded by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism within the AEI support programme to contribute to improving the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises.
