The GreenHood project addresses nutrient pollution (nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P)), which affect ecosystems and biodiversity. It aims to reduce nutrient imbalances through innovative recovery technologies, nature-based solutions, and best management practices. The project will promote the circularity of nutrient flows by converting waste into biological fertilisers, while integrating sustainable business and governance models, to create long-term environmental and socio-economic benefits.
This project, funded by the Horizon Europe programme, will be developed in four European regions: Spain, the Netherlands-Belgium, Finland and Norway, in which tailor-made solutions will be applied to reverse nutrient loss, manage agricultural waste and reduce aquaculture pollution. Using advanced technologies such as anaerobic digestion, membrane processes, and precision fertilization, GreenHood will develop scalable and practical solutions.
