It is a second phase project that builds on the results obtained in the previous FLUENT project, during the execution of which work was carried out on the development of a breakdown prediction model in water distribution networks based on open source software and algorithms. FLUENT 2.0 proposes new functionalities and developments linked to the improvement of the breakdown prediction algorithm already developed, the consideration of the concept of risk in all its aspects within the breakdown prediction model and the improvement of the data integration and processing platform. It also includes the development of a results viewer with an interface that will allow network managers to have continuous control. Once the new algorithm has been developed, a proof of concept will be carried out to test its calculation capacity by means of internal indicators and based on the collaboration of the four operators that make up the project consortium.
FLUENT 2.0 will help reduce water leaks and improve the management of supply infrastructures, optimising investment in preventive maintenance and renewal of pipes, and contributing to the sustainability of water resources. In addition, it will allow municipalities and operators to improve their response capacity in the event of possible breakdowns, avoiding economic losses and unwanted social and environmental impacts. It will also improve the quality of service and sustainability in a context where droughts are increasingly recurrent and intense.
The project has been funded by ACCIÓ’s IRC call for proposals. It is coordinated by the Catalan Water Partnership and involves Aigües de Mataró, Aigües de Manresa, AVENTEC, BGEO, Taigua, and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
