The AGUARICS project arises from the need to respond to the challenges posed by the design, construction and management of reclaimed water distribution networks for urban and industrial users, integrating various digital technologies to ensure a more reliable, efficient and resilient service. The project is based on the results and algorithms developed during the previous ReWaT project and emphasizes the use of sensors to continuously monitor key physical, chemical and microbiological parameters of the reclaimed water, which allow to ensure regulatory compliance of the wastewater at all times.
A second pillar of the project, which complements the quality control aspects, is the implementation of a digital twin network, fed jointly by quality data and hydraulic data. This digital twin acts as a virtual replica, to simulate operational scenarios, detect deviations in operation and anticipate possible incidents before they have an impact on the service or the quality of the resource.
These technologies will be tested and validated in a real network of reclaimed water, which will provide results in order to complement the theoretical and state-of-the-art study of these infrastructures that initiates the project workflow.
The incorporation of cybersecurity as a structural element of the system is also contemplated, ensuring data protection, the integrity of communications and the operational continuity of the network. In this way, AGUARICS not only promotes smarter management of reclaimed water, but also establishes a scalable and replicable tool for future deployments, contributing to strengthening the water resilience and competitiveness of territories in a context of climate change and pressure on resources.
