Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB)
The Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) is the public administration of the metropolitan territory of Barcelona, covering 636 km² and composed of 36 municipalities home to more than 3.4 million people.
The AMB’s areas of responsibility include territory and urban planning, mobility, housing, the environment, and social and economic development. Within the environmental area, the AMB holds full responsibilities across the entire water cycle, from supply to environmental retorn and reuse. It also coordinates municipal sanitation systems and regulates the tariffs associated with water-cycle services. In this way, the AMB manages both the daily operation of services and long-term planning, while making a firm commitment to innovation and learning through internationalisation and participation in European projects.
