The Cosme Water Footprint project, in all its three phases, aims to develop a tool for calculating the organizational water footprint and the product produced in the cosmetic sector. It would be the first specific software for the sector with this objective, being a global innovation and reinforcing the sustainability positioning of the Spanish cosmetic sector.
The current first phase of the project aims to adapt and validate the methodology for calculating the organizational water footprint of the cosmetic sector. Specifically, it will allow in-depth knowledge of the main currents and flows of the cosmetic sector with a potential impact on the water footprint, making a decision on the most appropriate calculation methodology for the sector and standardizing data inventories on currents and flows in accordance with its level of significance. Finally, the Water Technology Center (Cetaqua) will calculate the organization’s water footprint in companies in the cosmetic sector to validate the selection of the methodology and the standardization of inventories. In addition, three expert engineering companies (Lente Ingenieros, Hydrokemos and Hidroquimia) participate in the project, which will allow the compilation of good water cycle management practices and personalized reduction actions related to water use and material and energy flow. for each of the participating cosmetic companies.
Cosme Water Footprint emerged from the analysis prepared due to the lack of information and knowledge for a correct measurement of the cosmetic sector’s water footprint through the previous COSM-EAU project in which Feeling Innovation by Stanpa and the Catalan Water Partnership participated.
